What have I done to try and learn Ruby on Rails so far?
I’ve included my near-master list below. However you don’t have to even look at it because I’m about to give you the only relevant advice you should have for learning rails, programming, or most things in life. There is no book, tutorial, or website that will enable you to learn rails better than trying to build something that you care about and are willing to commit to creating. That process will necessitate the use of some of the materials listed below, but please learn from my mistake. I have been getting the advice I just shared with you for over a year now, and I have yet to legitimately take heed to it. Focusing on accumulating a list of books and tutorials you’ve completed may seem cool, but it means next to nothing if you don’t have anything to show for it. It gives you a convenient excuse to tell people you’ve been doing something – which is true to an extent – but the wisest among my stakeholders get straight to the meat of things when they see me: “where’s the app?”
Well. I guess I’ll just work on the app then.
Enjoy the list (I am deliberately choosing NOT to hyperlink these), but peruse it at your own peril – it’s a huge distraction from what matters to try and burn through these…
